Guest Speaker: Dr. Bob Darling, SUNY Cortland
The Barton Mines contain the world’s largest garnet deposit. We will travel by motor coach bus to the Barton Mines located in the Adirondacks. Box lunch will be provided. Once we arrive at the mines, Bob Darling will discuss the geology of the area. Ample time for specimen collection will be provided.
We will depart from the mine no later than 3:00 p.m. and arrive back in Syracuse at approximately 5:30 p.m.
This is a family event – bring your spouses, bring your children!!!

Cost for CNYAPG Members and their families: Adults $15.00 Children $10.00
Cost for non-members: Adults $20.00 Children $15.00
(An individual membership to CNYAPG is still only $20.00!!!)
Fee includes bus ride, box lunch and admission into the mine.
If you travel by car to the mine, your admission cost will be $5.00/adult and $4.00/child, no lunch will be included.

The bus for the Barton Mines will leave promptly at 9:00 a.m. from the O’Brien and Gere (OBG) parking lot. Directions to OBG:
Route 481 to Exit for 298 west (just north of the Thruway)
Turn RIGHT at the end of the exit (heading west on 298)
Take your first LEFT onto Brittonfield
OBG is the third building on your LEFT – Park in the rear (EAST SIDE) of the building – look for large Birnie bus.
If you are driving separate, directions are as follows:
Take the Northway, ROUTE 87 north from the Thruway
Take Exit 23 (Warrensburg)
Go through the Village of Warrensburg on Route 9 to the junction
for Route 28
Take a left onto Route 28
Continue on Route 28 for 16 miles through Wevertown, then 5 miles
past
The Village of North Creek, and 5 miles to the hamlet
of North River.
Watch for a left turn on to the Baron Mines Road, Follow this
road for
5 miles to the Gore Mountain Mineral Shop where all tours
for garnet mine
